2007 06 24: Some pictures HERE. (To get the photos in chronological order, click on "sort by date".)

2007 06 24: After various Strul to get the automatic transmission dense, we are now ready to start the engine, but it needed a little elfix first

2007 05 13: Both Marten and signed is a little "measured" in the renovation of old cars right now because it is something we do 7 days a week, but we have yet grejjat with Ford a few hours this weekend.

2007 04 30: "A little småfix", which is usually hot in begbilannonserna, takes his time there, too.

2007 04 21: We painted over the mordant white color with black body.

2007 04 21: We had a nostalgic tug and began painting the base white, just as it did in the early 1980s!

2007 04 09: The engine and box on the ground in the car, now there is still some tricks o FINICKY JOB before the car becomes executable.

2007 04 08: We set up the engine and box, so tomorrow we can probably put in the car.

2007 04 01: Brake renovation is complete.

2007 03 18: We received the visit of Peter, Peter and Kajjan from Knight-Crusers, Nyköping.

Thank Kajjan for T-shirt!

2007 03 11: Front brakes and clear up the wagon uppsmord.

2007 03 10: We thought there might be a good idea to renovate the brakes before we put in the engine.

Marten found around. 200 spindles in the brake drum (but fortunately was not as focused on it!).

2007 03 04: Lennart came in the garage and he had renovated with a carburetor and generartor. The engine is ready to put in the car.

2007 03 03: Now we're soon back to square one, that it is time to put the engine in the car.

2007 02 18:

We withdrew its peaks and vevlagren the right moment and mounted the oil pump and the tray. Then I blew the rest of the engine red.

About two weeks Marttila Plymouth home from the U.S. where everything must be clear with Ford.

Ie. add the engine, renovate the brakes get a little more with the exhaust system and electricity.

Will we rush this? Maybe.

2007 02 17:

Mårten mounted in the final three flasks, and then came top lids, kamkedjan, kamkåpan and water pump on. Cover plate over Lifts were warped so we had to pick the person who sat on 272: up instead. Then it was time to start the engine red paint so it looks like a Ford -57: a motor and not one from a Mercury -56: a.

2007 02 11:

Good friends are good to have when you renovate a car!

Michael, a friend from The 1949-54 Chevy Club called and said he probably could weld the broken manifold and solder the broken cooler.

Marten went on to assemble the engine, he wants to be finished soon so he can begin his Mopar-projects instead.

2007 02 08:

My friend Lennart came and picked carburettor and the generator which he has committed to renovate.

2007 02 04:

At last, it has been waiting! Namely that it is time to start picking up the engine again.

  2007 02 03:

Marten had been completed with the renovation of the top lids and were now on the piston rings.

We blew the block with high pressure and compressed air.

It was still a lot of rust out of water channels.

Even cooler was a by spraying and we found that the leak at the connection to the automatic cooling.

2007 01 21:

Mårten honade finished all cylinders and had removed most of the turning edges.

I went on to paint, this time the details will be blank black, which is harder to achieve than the carpet.

Besides the usual pourability / curtains and grinding reporna so I got full of cracking on remskivan to the water pump-sigh .......... just to redo.

I wish I had a blästerskåp to breathe clean detail in.

2007 01 20:

Marten had taken home the top lids and milled valves.

He had also been given away all the old rust that was in the water pump.

The engine has probably been sitting for a while there was much rust and spider's web of water channels. Thermostat house was completely broken toasted on the inside but fortunately was so we have a 272: a pick parts so we took the thermostat house from the engine. It was unfortunately not exactly the same but may work in all cases, we hope.

Marten started with the female out of the cylinders, unfortunately it was a little turning corners, so he should see if it can find another honingsverktyg that takes away a little more material.

I went on to paint div. details including the manifold, which was jättefina but (Shit happen!) then went one ear of the one just when I was finished with it. I have a different manifold on the stock but has not dared to look even if it is to the same page as it went broke. Grenville tubes from 272: up, we can not use because they are not equal, but was made for single exhaust.

In the worst case we must weld just as it was with the hood as water pump is screwed in.

2007 01 14:

Unfortunately, there is no energy these days as before, the aches in your body when you have been going on too intense in the garage so it'll probably (although one would Never say never .........) my last major bilprojekt.

Have been going on since 1978 (I was 14 years when) and bolted with cars. 1978-81, I had no home projects, but I helped a friend with the renovation of his Ford Crown Victoria in 1955.

My first car was a Dodge Challenger Convertible (reportage from the newspaper Power # 2-1984 HERE.) That I had the years 1981-87, which was renovated in the same garage as Ford -57: an as we are doing now.

Trivia: in the garage had Rock n Roll band "The Skyliners" his replokal in the late 1970s, guess which car that inspired us to the name of the band.

Now in recent years, I have found that The Skyliners already existed and that they are in the soundtrack to the movie "American graffiti."

Therefore called the recordings are preserved now instead Duck Flower and The Styleliners, this can be found HERE.

The Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner was  early my Dream Car, but it took almost 30 years before I got one and this has Mårten and today I picked it down last on the engine block.

It was an enormous amount of rust in all water channels and the water pump so it was probably lucky that we opened the machine in all cases, which we had not planned to do from the beginning.

PG Larsson as I ordered the new engine parts guaranteed that the engine would hold at least 20 000 mil after renovation. If you run 200 mil a year so are the hundred years that is.

2007 01 04:

We measured up crankshaft with micrometer and found that it probably did not need to reground.

Measurements HERE.

The cracked cast iron hood, I left for Galway svetsutbildning who welded together with the guarantee if it would be tight.

Called PG Larsson and ordered all that was needed to renovate the engine and the carburettor (which is an Auto Lite 2-port).

Someone has switched from 4-port intake to 2-p for under PGL, so he knew not that it produced 2-port 312: or.

Ordered the conversion rate of the carburettor, so I can build on the manual choke.

We also looked up kamkedjan according to the exposition had to slacken around. ½ inches so it was not torn as we first thought and I Mårten.

The mark was also the right so it had not eclipsed over but it will be twelve hack between the labels, always do you learn something!

2007 01 03:

After some trouble and inconvenience, so we got off the crankshaft.

Ramla Grenville seemed to be the original from November 1955.

2007 01 02:

I borrowed this lacked the tool of mate Niklas and got loose screws that we could not unload yesterday.

2007 01 01:

Marten found that kamkedjan enough replacements and I continued with my painting, with the usual outcome-ie. pourability curtains, abrasive scratches and so on.

But it looks in all cases better than the brush-painted red that was before.

We also found that the car has been home to many nasty spiders.

WARNING: Click on the link only if you do not have the phobia of them.

Two Black Widows came with the car home to the former owner Tommy on importation.

Guess where he was accused of charging car in the cold (January 2005) then.

2006 12 30:

Marten continued to dismantle the engine and found that:

It did not go around due. a damaged vevstakslager.

It was a 312: a label had been attacked because ECZ,

had it been the ECB, it would have been EN 292: a.

Much rust and debris inside the hood over lifts.

Much rust behind the water pump and a large crack in the hood as water pump is screwed in.

Advantage He had erjat firmly in the block due., Aluminum, in combination with iron.

Carburettor, 2-port of unknown origin probably need a review.

All stocks and pistons seem to have been in the engine then it was new but topcap had been substituted at some point.

Probably so, it is sufficient that the female out of the cylinders and change the piston rings and bearings and seals all.

I began to grind down the wall like a torpedo painted red with brush in the past.

I will not do this so seriously either, but some cans matt black from the gas station's good enough for the time being, the car has no ambition to pick goblets on the Power-Meet in all cases.

However, it is a very good restaurant properties, so it could be renovated into a 50-poängsbil if we could hold on for 10 years or so but it is as I say not an issue right now.

2006 12 29:

07.00 we went to PG Larsson's carparts in Tibro and got most of what was missing on the wish list that we wrote, there was everything else except start the engine as we would have.

This firm is highly recommended if there is anything you need for your American car!

Happy in mind since we came home at noon and now the engine in place and added in order to test-run in the car.

When we would change the oil plug, so we noted that vehusventilationsröret sitting next to this contact was transporting injured so we had to pick it off and draw and modify a bit to get it close.

Then assembled the new starter, and when it would test-run so happened as much as the last, that is nothing.

We took away the start and test drove the loose, and then gently rotate the very nice so we put it back on the engine again and pulled around the engine with latch handle on remskivan and then scraped start drevet to one side and the other was the grinding halt.

It was to eliminate the start again and drag around the engine without starting the engine mounted.

The engine was now only to draw half a lap on both sides since it was grinding halt, for unknown reason for it had gone well to drag around a week ago when I last tried this.

It was now to bow to disassemble the engine to try to ascertain why the only snurrade a content yards, that we have not yet arrived on why it was so but there was much debris, sand and old brown and black provide the engine to try run it as it was found to be a very smart idea.

We renovated to about 23.30 at night so the dismantling may continue tomorrow.

2006 12 28:

Converter and the gearbox was in place.

Then we would get the starter motor, but it was not there for someone had mounted an expanding frost plug with a nut who went out too much, so we had to travel to Valles Machine Service and get some new nuts.

Then when we would try its inception as it clicked to it, and it happened no more. This was a 6-volt starting from a -55: ans 272: 'a definitely done his, it was strange that when we tested it the other week so gently rotate the how nice any time but not now.

It is to visit PG Larsson in Tibro tomorrow to buy a new 12-volt start and everything else taken.

Mårten welded in the crowd, one exhaust pipe which was corrosive and I was a fire accidentally set me on fire extinguisher which said pyyys and then went on not to use more!

Sure it is fun almost evenly with old cars!

2006 12 27:

The aim is to drive the car before the end of the year.

But we were not in the engine today, but also has the most labor has with various missing bolts and nuts.

The radiator and gasoline tank found in the luggage as we got up after a bit labor corresponding with the electricity. We also found that both the engine and the box was completely empty of oil is likely due to the fact that these gadgets have been sent in a separate box after the car came to Sweden.

2006 12 26:

Mårten & signed has begun to transport the engine and box to the garage.

312: up and the machine comes from a Mercury in 1956 but should be fit in Ford -57: an think we are.

Smart had obviously been through stuff first, but we should put in it and see if it works.

Is it possible you can.

2005 04 04: Bought my dreamcar ( 1957 Ford Skyliner ) and leaving a 1960 Cadillac and $ between.

1999-2000: Owns Ford Custom Line in 1956 as bruksbil and run with the 800 mil.

1978-80: Helping a friend to renovate his Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria 1955

1976: witnessing a Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner for the first time on the Mantorp Parks Drag racing competitions.
This will be my Dream Car.
